One of the most useful web postings I have seen in a long time. No one has time to read all of the restrictions on the Creative Commons website.

Ok, so I don't.

But this boils it down to the information that someone really needs.

Hm. I'd say that dizzygirl is confused about the license she's using, which is unfortunate.

Another example of when you'd need to keep a sharp eye is if you do a CC search for something like "batman", though there are many, great images, some of the results are clearly under copyright, and posted without the copyright owner's consent.

I suppose this is a case for using a bit of caution when looking for reusable content. If the poster doesn't understand the rules, things could get a bit tricky.

But for most of the cases where I've hunted for CC images on Flickr, I was able to find an image that was posted by a user who seemed to be enthusiastic about the license, and what it meant.

hey, one word of warning - I was doing a CC search on Flickr for some images last week and found something I really wanted to use listed under a 3.0 license. I linked to it, and was doing some due diligence in terms of checking the artist's profile when I found in the blurb on her profile she actually prohibited people from using her photos without emailing her first and getting express permission.

"Please do not use these images on your personal and commerical [sic] sites, or blogs without contacting me and getting permission."

This seems to fly somewhat in the face of CC philosophy, and I was in a hurry to find an image, so I didn't use her work.
